GIF backs Green Teams to tackle air pollution in Indonesia.
Dec 10, 2025
GIF Growth is partnering with Green Teams, an Indonesian environmental technology company, to expand air quality monitoring systems across the country. The partnership will improve the collection and flow of real-time pollution data to government authorities, strengthening Indonesia’s ability to tackle one of its most urgent public health and environmental challenges.
Indonesia is facing a severe air pollution crisis, with levels averaging 7.4 times higher than World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines. This has become a major public health concern, shortening life expectancy and disproportionately affecting low-income communities and urban residents, particularly in the Greater Jakarta area, home to 11% of the population. Poor air quality also undermines economic productivity, leading to increased absenteeism and reduced worker productivity. Climate change further compounds the problem, as rising temperatures and frequent forest fires drive up levels of pollutants such as black carbon, which not only worsen air quality but also drive further environmental degradation.
Green Teams is helping government and industries take control of air quality and emissions with advanced monitoring technology and expert lab services. By ensuring every measurement is accurate and reliable, the company turns complex environmental data into actionable insights, supporting smarter decisions that protect public health and reduce the economic costs of pollution.
Their Air Quality Monitoring Systems (AQMS) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) are integrated with government platforms providing real-time data and include built-in alerts when air quality reaches dangerous levels. This enables authorities to respond quickly, analyse trends, and plan evidence-based interventions. In comparable contexts, similar real-time monitoring systems have achieved a 33% improvement in air quality and 22% reductions in respiratory hospital admissions.
As the first accredited laboratory for gas analysers in Indonesia, Green Teams guarantees precise readings across its network. The company is also developing AI-driven dashboard features and incorporating meteorology, demographic, and forecast data, providing predictive insights that support policy-making, industrial management, and support the delivery of Indonesia’s climate commitments.

GIF’s Managing Director of Investments, Lily Steele, said:
"I’m thrilled to mark GIF Growth’s first deal with Green Teams, a company redefining how air quality is managed in Indonesia. GIF Growth’s flexible debt products for early growth stage companies like Green Teams and our willingness to support businesses looking to scale through B2G models are only some examples of how GIF Growth is seeking to plug the ‘missing middle’ gap in existing impact capital deployment. Green Team’s technology delivers significant environmental, social and economic value—exactly the kind of scalable impact we’re here to fund and scale."
Wilson Sutarko, CEO of Green Teams said:
“Partnering with the Global Innovation Fund goes beyond funding, it’s about uniting around a shared vision for a cleaner, more sustainable Indonesia. This support strengthens our commitment to advancing the country’s net-zero journey.”
The partnership will enable Green Teams to expand its operations and take on additional government contracts, increasing the reach and impact of its monitoring infrastructure. By expanding reliable data collection, this work is expected to bring health and economic benefits, while also supporting Indonesia’s climate efforts through better tracking of pollutants such as black carbon.
Through this collaboration, GIF Growth is backing a data-driven approach to tackling air pollution in Indonesia. By scaling Green Teams’ monitoring systems, we are helping authorities make smarter decisions, protect public health, and drive sustainable environmental action that benefits communities and the economy alike.
