GIF opens new Nairobi office

By Lalit Kumar, Managing Director – Africa  |   Posted 15th April 2020

I am delighted to announce GIF’s global presence is increasing with the opening of our new GIF office in Nairobi, Kenya. Being at the heart of regions we seek to invest in will help GIF make its strong investments in the Global South even stronger.

As Managing Director – Africa I will support the sourcing and portfolio management of GIF investments in Africa, as well as leading stakeholder management regionally. Working closely with my colleague Charlotte Ward, Managing Director – Portfolio and Investments, who is based in the London office, we will lead on GIF’s venture support offering to the whole GIF portfolio.

GIF knows the importance of local sourcing for creative solutions and this new office solidifies our commitment to investing in local entrepreneurs with the best chance of long-term success and social impact. Many of these innovators need to focus on their business and we recognise the need to be accessible to them, rather than vice-versa.

We also recognise that making great investments is important but only a job half done. Business environments change quickly, as we have seen acutely over the last few months. Our presence closer to our investees will allow us to provide the right-sized venture support as part of our portfolio management and value add, in addition to the financial support.

From the new Kenya office, we will continue our strategic partnerships with local innovators, investors and governments, to best support innovations on their pathway to impact and scale.

Thank you to the UK High Commission in Nairobi who are great partners to GIF and assisted with the planning of setting up the Nairobi office.
