Financial Times Transformational Business Awards 2017

Posted 8th March 2017

The Global Innovation Fund is proud to be partnering with the Financial Times for the 2017 Transformational Business Awards.

This initiative, now in its fourth year, recognises and rewards outstanding private sector solutions to major development challenges. The Awards are an opportunity for innovators of all kinds to come together to focus on what really works when seeking to achieve meaningful and far-reaching social impact.

It’s also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those organisations that are out there making a real difference to the lives of the world’s poorest people, and to learn from their successes – that includes all entrants, not just the eventual winners.

The application window closes on 31st March and the ceremony takes place on 8th June.

This year’s awards cover the following categories:

Submitting an application

Submitting an application is an opportunity to showcase your work and demonstrate how it addresses some of the key challenges affecting developing economies.

All shortlisted organisations and initiatives will feature in the Financial Times print edition, and will be invited to attend the awards dinner where the winners will be revealed. Winners will then also feature on the awards website.

The Awards are open to all financial and non-financial private sector organisations working on projects and transactions that are having an impact on the development issues they are targeting, or those which show great potential for impact.

While the focus is on transformational impact in developing countries, the awards are also very much open to projects that address similar challenges in developed countries where the potential for replication in less-advantaged areas exists.

Entries will be judged on their impact, replicability, financial viability and sustainability, with special attention given to those that address climate change and/or use disruptive technologies and business models to achieve their goals.

Financial Times and International Finance Corporation Conference

Before the awards ceremony and dinner get underway on 8th June, the Financial Times and the International Finance Corporation will also be hosting a day conference.

The event will focus on the use of new technologies in delivering infrastructure in the developing world, the impact on renewable energy, and also the leadership role that cities are taking when it comes to tackling climate change. There will also be a focus on what the private sector can do to help achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on health and education.
